Puglia showcase - contemporary theatre week

Puglia Showcase is the display case of contemporary theatre that will range over the entire region of Apulia from May 21 to May 25, 2012 with the objective of promoting artistic exchange and opening regional borders to international proposals in the field of theatre.

Performances, including a world premiere, and in-depths have been scheduled for an entire week fully devoted to theatre.

Several very special venues in the four Apulian towns involved in Puglia Showcase have been selected: the “ Nuovo Teatro Verdi” in Brindisi, the Theatres “ TaTÀ “ and “Orfeo” and the Aragonese Castle in Taranto, the Swabian Castle in Barletta, and the “Convento di San Domenico” in Martina Franca.

The flagship event of the showcase is the world premiere in Brindisi of the Divine Comedy put on the stage by Nekrošius, undisputed master of international contemporary theatre. The play is produced by the Company Meno Fortas with the honorable contribution of Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, and the Organization “Aldo Miguel Grompone”.

Eight are the theatre companies hosted in this all-Apulian showcase: Aretè Ensemble, Compagnia Berardi-Casolari, Compagnia del Sole, Fibre Parallele, Opera, QuaLiBò, Teatro Koreja, Teatro Minimo. Finally, as extra pieces, two performances from new festivals networked with Puglia Showcase: Tana Fest in Barletta and Start up in Taranto.

Besides live performances, Puglia Showcase includes five Study Days: in Brindisi, in addition to the Press Conference of presentation of the Divine Comedy in the presence of its Director, Lectures on Dante’s Inferno organized by the University of Bari and a Round Table on Economy, Culture, Territory; in Barletta, tanks to the collaboration with the freshly established Centro Nazionale Drammaturgia Italiana, a Conference on dramaturgy, production and distribution; in Taranto, Italian and Russian drama critics will focus on two occasions on the School of Direction from the East, as well as on the present all-Apulian cultural liveness; finally in Martina Franca, a workshop on the presence of and the importance attached to music in Nekrošius’ theatre with critics and musicologists, in collaboration with the Fondazione Paolo Grassi.

The TaTÀ theatre will host an area devoted to B2B matching meetings where Apulian companies can introduce themselves and meet the operators from the most important International theatrical realities invited to Apulia to participate in the Showcase.

Puglia Showcase is organized by Teatro Pubblico Pugliese and funded within the ERDF Apulia 2007-2013 OP, Axis IV Actions 4.3.2 and 4.1.2 included among the actions assigned to the Regional Council Department for Mediterranean Region, Culture and Tourism of Apulia Region within the actions “Internazionalizzazione della Scena”and “Puglia Location di Grandi Eventi” put in place by this latter.
